In India, trend for localized search engine is gaining weight as many companies like Asklaila, Burrp and Webaroo have offered local engines to make local searches like ‘open air’ restaurant in Bangalore, realistic. These local searches can share a huge chunk of 100 crores searches which are made per month in India.

Yahoo! launched new universal search options earlier code named as Panama on 2nd October of this month. In new Yahoo! search there are options for different types of content search that is automatically done by search engine crawlers. Now one can view embedded video, photos from yahoo’s extensive Flicker collection.

And this time even yahoo results are customized according to specific type of searches as exclusive for celebrities, musical artists and news. The other unique feature in this universal search version is use of a drop-down box called search assist appears as users types various spelling fixes and search suggestions on the basis of typed matter.

Though, these facilities are also provided by other search engines too but yahoo has presented it smartly. In the search, relevant information from the Yahoo’s upcoming event site upcoming.org for local events related to search is provided. New universal Search option also features information from Yahoo Answers.  As market analysts are happy about these features and hopes it would make Google to think over strategies, at least once.
